Our trip to Grand Marais takes place in September when the bugs have subsided, the fall colors are starting, and the tourists have left!  We will explore this beautiful area by trail, boat and helicopter.

The details:

September 20--Arrive by 5 pm at Sunset Cabins, 2 miles east of Grand Marais, located on the shore of Lake Superior.  We will be staying in The Lodge, which has individual guest rooms and shared bathrooms.  We will have a welcome dinner and drinks at 6 pm, catered at The Lodge.  Please Note:  There may be lodging available in private cabins based on request and availability to allow for social distancing.  We will also take health and safety guidelines into consideration for all meals/catered dinners.

September 21--Guided hiking from Lake Superior Cabins to Blind Sucker Flooding along the North Country Trail and Blind Sucker Pathway.   Lunch along the trail is provided. If you choose to do the entire hike, the distance is approximately 15 miles.  There are several options for shorter hikes, of approximately 5 and 10 miles.  Catered dinner provided at The Lodge.

September 22--Fishing for Lake Trout with Rainbow Charters on Lake Superior.  The marina is a short drive from the lodge where you will meet your charter captain for a half day of fishing.  The rest of the day will be spent looking for Lake Superior Agates along the beach and exploring the town of Grand Marais.  Catered dinner provided at The Lodge.

September 23--Guided hiking along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  This hike will include a stop at the interpretive center, the Sable Lake/Sable Falls area, and return to the lodge.  If you choose to do the entire hike, the distance will be approximately 15 miles.  There are several other distance options available.  Lunch is provided along the trail.  Dinner on your own at the Lake Superior Brewing Company.

September 24--See the UP from the air!  Depending on the weather conditions, this will either be a helicopter or float plane trip.  Kim Darst, local pilot, will take you up in small groups for a flight you will not forget!  The rest of the day can be spent kayaking near our resort, doing a short hike through the school forest, exploring the town or rock picking.  Catered dinner--hopefully Lake Trout from the catch earlier in the week, provided at The Lodge.

September 25--Departure from Grand Marais and drive to Muskellonge Lake State Park for a short hike, then onto a brief visit with the sled dogs at Nature's Kennel.  You can't come this close to our home without stopping in to get some puppy kisses!
