The details:
This is a general itinerary and may change slightly based up weather as a few of our activites (sailing and helicopter rides) are very weather depenent. All breakfasts and several lunches and dinners are provided. Please bring your own day pack (small backpack) for carrying your jacket, lunch, water bottle and camera. Hikes are moderate and are 2-5 miles in length. Transportation to and from all locations is provided.
September 26--Arrive by 5 pm at Birch Shores Resort, located on Big Manistique Lake near the town of Curtis. Lodging will be in shared cabins (2-3 bedrooms/1 bathroom). We will have a welcome dinner and drinks at 6 pm, catered at Birch Shores.
September 27--"Dog Sledding" by ATV. Join Tasha, her staff, and dogs as we take off through the woods pulled by dog power. We will do a 2-3 mile ride as part of the dog's fall training reginme. You'll get to meet the 150 Alaskan Huskies at Nature's Kennel and learn about the fall traing for the dogs. After dog sledding, we will head to Tahquamenon Falls to do a short hike near the lower falls. Lunch will be at Nature's Kennel (provided) and dinner at Tahquamenon Falls Brewery and Pub (on your own).
September 28--We take off from the Naubinway Harbor for a private sailing trip with Dr. Jeff Bomber along the shore of Lake Michigan. Snacks, lunch and drinks provided. Dinner in Nabuinway (on your own).
September 29--See the UP from the air! Kim Darst, accomplished veteran pilot, will take you on a magnificent ride to see the fall colors from the air. You can even learn how to drive the helicopter! After our helicopter ride we will take a short hike along the dunes of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Lunch provided, dinner on your own in Grand Marais.
September 30--We head to Germfask to visit Benny the Troll and do some short hiking in the Seney National Wildlife Refuge. After hiking and lunch we will make a stop at the End of the Road Winey for a wine tasting. Lunch on your own (Germfask), catered dinner provided (Birch Shores Lodge).
October 1--Departure from Birch Shores Resort.
